Independent Venue Week celebrates its 10th Anniversary in 2023. Its aim is to shine a light on independent venues around the UK and the support they give to up and coming acts and the indie music sector. These venues are the incubators of talent, the breeding grounds for future stars.

Here at Old Bakery Studios we like to think we do our bit and to join in the celebrations we have headline act, one of Cornwall's major music exports right now, The Velvet Hands, much featured on Radio 1, 6 Music, Radio X and more blogs than you can shake a copy of the NME at. The band performed a barnstorming set at this summer's Boardmasters Festival, were personally chosen by Glastonbury's Michael Eavis to support Elbow at his Pilton Party back in September and have sold out gigs in London, Manchester, Falmouth and more since. To add to the excitement The Velvet Hands release their 2nd album on Feb 3rd and will be playing many tracks from it at Old Bakery Studios Indie Club Night.

Supporting The Velvet Hands will be Falmouth's finest; Factor 50. The Velvet Hands are huge fans of this band and we're pretty sure you will be too. Eclectic Indie might be a description, Alternative Alternative might be another! Guitars, drums, synths, sax, trumpet, spoon.....all of them make up the unique sound of Factor 50. They release their debut album in the new year and we're pretty sure you'll be hearing much more of them in 2023.

Also on the bill, Exeter upstart Fluff, described by Dan Pascoe on BBC Introducing as "a one man punk explosion of beautiful intensity". Perfect for a Velvet Hands/Factor 50 gig!

Opening the night will be Flory Jones, straight out of Truro College following in the illustrious footsteps of alumni The Rezner, The Golden Dregs, Stanley Duke and The Kindred Spirits and of course The Velvet Hands. Cornwall's got talent!

So come on down to support your independent venue and some Cornish acts making the London music meeja sit up and take notice.
