Every Home from Home event aims to be more than just a party and seeks also to raise social consciousness - Our beloved Home of Kernow is in the very serious grip of the housing crisis, and to combat that, ACORN the Union for the Community will have a very welcomed info/outreach stall.
There'll also be a letter-writing to prisoners workshop; sending love and solidarity from Home to those who have had their access to home and community taken away.
We're also joined by the ever-poignant and deeply talented visual artist and craftsperson Alaric Hobbs who'll be exhibiting art pieces which "channel an intense disapproval of global injustices throughout their practice, creating work that speaks to, and against, systems of control and deterrence. [...] especially drawn to themes like hostile architecture, climate crises, and the ongoing struggles of migration and displacement."
From 2016 the now legendary Jai Thep Festival curated a blissful and exciting magical playground of music, art, and creativity in Northern Thailand. A well-loved and integral part of its eclectic vibrancy was a stage simply called ‘Home’.
Two of its creators hail from right here in our beloved Kernow and on November 22nd, for the first time, ‘Home’ is coming home and bringing with it summer festival vibes to the fantastic indoor venue Old Bakery Studios, Truro.
Styled with kitsch living-room decor and battering down the barrier between ‘punter’ and ‘performer’ Home from Home provides a safe-haven for all to express themselves. Everyone from punks to monks, drag queens (and kings), clowns, battle-rappers, geeks, grown-up theatre-kids, and everyone in between have been welcomed onto the stage to share their creative talents, stories, experiences, laughter, and more.
